Our Global Village Is Growing: EBI Welcomes Spring Village, Jamaica!

From Maryland to Ghana to Jamaica, we are connecting young minds, bridging cultures, and expanding opportunities beyond borders.

Something exciting is happening at Expanding Boundaries International (EBI)!

Our Global Village has officially welcomed Jamaica!

What started as a vision to connect young people in Baltimore City and Carroll County, Maryland, with students in Ghana is growing into a global learning community.

Today, our STEAM Exchange connects young learners across three countries: the United States, Ghana, and Jamaica.

Our newest members are the enthusiastic students of Spring Village, Jamaica, and we are excited to welcome them to the EBI family!

Three countries. One Global Village. Endless possibilities.

Welcome to Spring Village, Jamaica!

Jamaica is an island nation in the Caribbean Sea, located south of Cuba and west of Haiti.

Known worldwide for reggae music, rich history, beautiful landscapes, and a strong cultural identity, Jamaica has made an incredible contribution to the world.

But Jamaica is much more than a popular travel destination. It is home to creative, talented, and ambitious young people with dreams of making a difference.

Spring Village is now part of EBI's growing international learning community.

Through this partnership, Jamaican students can connect with peers in the United States and Ghana, explore technology, share their culture, and develop skills that will help prepare them for future opportunities.

Talent exists everywhere, and opportunity should too.

From an August Pilot to a Growing Global Connection

In August 2026, Spring Village joined our STEAM Exchange as part of an initial pilot program.

We wanted to introduce the students to our Global Village, test how the exchange would work, and explore opportunities for continued collaboration.

The experience has been wonderful!

Our Spring Village students have brought energy, curiosity, creativity, and excitement to our virtual learning sessions.

Since joining, they have participated in several educational activities, including:

  • Internet Safety Awareness: Creating educational messages that teach others how to stay safe, responsible, and informed online.
  • Coding and Technology: Exploring coding concepts and developing digital skills through hands-on learning.
  • Student Presentations: Building confidence by presenting ideas, explaining projects, and sharing what they have learned.
  • Global Collaboration: Connecting with students in Maryland and Ghana through discussions, shared learning, and cultural exchange.

Watching these students participate, ask questions, and share their ideas has been one of the most rewarding parts of welcoming Jamaica into our Global Village.

Three Countries. One Global Village.

With the addition of Jamaica, EBI's Global Village now connects students across three countries.

United States: Baltimore City and Carroll County, Maryland, where students participate in STEAM learning, leadership development, and global exchange.

Ghana: Our eight learning hubs provide students with opportunities to explore technology, coding, innovation, and international collaboration.

Jamaica: Our newest participating community, Spring Village, brings fresh ideas, cultural experiences, and enthusiastic young learners into the exchange.

Each community brings something unique to the Global Village.

Students are discovering that although they may live in different countries, they share many of the same interests, challenges, hopes, and dreams.

A student in Baltimore can exchange ideas with a student in Jamaica. A student in Ghana can share a creative solution with peers across the Atlantic.

Together, they can learn that their voices and ideas matter.

Students learning with one another, not just about one another.

Beyond the ZIP Code: Why This Matters for Maryland Youth

At EBI, we believe a young person's ZIP code should never determine their access to opportunity.

Many students grow up learning about other countries through textbooks, television, or social media. However, they may never have the opportunity to speak directly with someone their age who lives in another part of the world.

Our STEAM Exchange is helping change that.

Through our Global Village, students in Baltimore City and Carroll County can experience international learning without leaving their classrooms or communities.

They can ask Jamaican students about their schools, traditions, food, and daily experiences.

They can learn from Ghanaian students about technology, community life, and innovation.

These experiences help students build confidence, develop communication skills, challenge stereotypes, and understand different perspectives.

Most importantly, they begin to see themselves as part of a global community.

We want our students to understand that their future is not limited by where they were born or where they live.

Bridging the Digital and Cultural Divide

Technology is a powerful tool, but access to technology alone is not enough.

Young people also need opportunities to use technology in meaningful ways.

That is why EBI combines Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) with cultural exchange and global citizenship.

Our students do more than learn coding. They learn to communicate across cultures, work with peers from different backgrounds, solve problems, and present their ideas to an international audience.

By bringing Jamaica into our Global Village, we are strengthening both sides of our mission.

We are helping bridge the digital divide by expanding opportunities to develop technology skills.

We are helping bridge the cultural divide by creating meaningful connections between young people from different countries.

A Vision Rooted in Personal Experience

For EBI Founder and Executive Director Leticia Nortey, expanding access to technology and global education is deeply personal.

Leticia first used a computer at age 16. Later, an opportunity to study abroad in China changed how she viewed the world and the possibilities available through international education.

Those experiences helped inspire the founding of Expanding Boundaries International in 2014.

Now, after 12 years of impact, EBI continues to create opportunities for young people to experience the power of technology, cultural exchange, and global learning.

The addition of Jamaica represents another important chapter in that journey.

We look forward to more coding activities, student presentations, internet safety projects, cultural discussions, and opportunities for collaboration.

As our Global Village continues to grow, our mission remains the same: empowering future generations through equitable access to cross-cultural and technological education.

We want students to become more than consumers of technology. We want them to become creators, innovators, problem solvers, and global citizens.
