Great News for EBI & Baltimore/Carroll County Youth: Ghana Study Abroad Program Wins Grant from Too Fly Foundation
We are thrilled to announce an extraordinary milestone for Expanding Boundaries International! Our Ghana Study Abroad program has received a much-needed boost with a generous grant from the Too Fly Foundation. This remarkable support unlocks opportunities for students in Baltimore and Carroll County, Maryland, to explore the world, expand their horizons, and engage in life-changing educational experiences.
The Ghana Study Abroad program has been a dream since the founding of Expanding Boundaries International. However, due to funding hurdles, our 2024 plans to launch this program fell short. This new grant represents a lifeline, allowing us to turn aspirations into reality. We’re beyond excited to provide international travel experiences for low-income and minority high school students, empowering them to connect with peers and cultures across borders.
Beginning June 20 through July 1, 2025, selected students will participate in a 12-day immersive study tour in Ghana. This unique program offers far more than sightseeing. Participants will engage with Ghanaian students through collaborative projects in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math), volunteer in local communities, and gain a rich understanding of Ghana’s cultural and historical heritage.
Highlights of the study tour include visits to historical landmarks like the Cape Coast Castle and Kakum National Park, cultural drumming and dance lessons, Twi language classes, and interactive sessions with partner schools in Ghana. Additionally, participants from Maryland will attend the first-ever STEAM Fest in Kumasi, celebrating education, innovation, and creativity alongside their Ghanaian counterparts.
The program emphasizes global citizenship, leadership development, and academic excellence, giving students a chance to not only learn about the world but also about themselves and their capacity to make a difference.
This initiative marks a monumental step for Expanding Boundaries International. While many students from minority or low-income backgrounds may never dream of traveling abroad due to financial constraints, our mission is to break down barriers. Through this program, students without passports will receive assistance, while visas, accommodations, and on-ground transportation will be covered. Families will only need to handle immunizations and medical checks, ensuring that the experience remains accessible to those who need it most.
The excitement doesn’t stop at the borders of Maryland and Carroll County. While this funding focuses on empowering local students, the program remains open to others who wish to join. This inclusivity underscores our belief that global education has the potential to unite communities and inspire future leaders.
A Heartfelt Thanks
We owe deep gratitude to the Too Fly Foundation for their belief in our mission and their unwavering support. Their commitment to making travel accessible to underserved students aligns perfectly with our vision of giving every child the opportunity to see the world. This partnership reinforces our belief that educational travel is not a luxury—it is a necessity. It broadens perspectives, nurtures curiosity, and fosters a generation of thoughtful, innovative global citizens.
This initiative wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our volunteers, sponsors, and partners. With every step we take, we’re reminded that it takes a village to empower our youth. If you’d like to be a part of this movement—whether by donating, mentoring, or spreading the word—we welcome your support.
