Yes, I am a Christian but I’m Okay with Saying “Happy Holidays”

As a devout Christian, my faith in Jesus is unwavering. I cherish Christmas and the joy it brings. Yet, as I take in the beauty of this season, I also acknowledge that not everyone shares these same traditions. My journey around the world, connecting with people of diverse beliefs, has taught me the importance of inclusivity and cultural tolerance, especially during the holiday season.

At Expanding Boundaries International (EBI), we cultivate an environment that respects and celebrates our shared humanity and unique differences. Our curriculum includes a lesson titled “End of Year Celebrations and How Families Ring in the New Year.” This lesson ensures all students can participate without feeling left out, regardless of their background or beliefs.

EBI is a vibrant tapestry of cultures, traditions, and religions. About 30% of our students are Muslims, and our team of dedicated teachers and volunteers come from various walks of life. As we navigate the holiday season, we strive to create an atmosphere that respects and acknowledges the richness of our diverse community.

Saying “Merry Christmas” feels good to me. It’s a greeting that resonates with my faith and tradition. However, saying “Happy Holidays” is an act of respect towards those who may celebrate differently. This simple change in greeting does not diminish my faith or the significance of Christmas. Instead, it fosters an environment of inclusivity and welcomes the many traditions celebrated during this season, including Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, and more.

This holiday season, let’s embrace the global chorus of celebration, acknowledging that while not everyone celebrates Christmas, we all celebrate the end of the year and the anticipation of a new one. This universal celebration transcends religious and cultural boundaries, uniting us in our shared hope for the future.

So, I wish you all a Happy Holidays! May the coming year be filled with joy, happiness, good health, prosperity, and harmony. Let’s continue to pray for world peace, understanding, and tolerance among all people. Here’s to a world that understands and celebrates its beautiful diversity. Happy Holidays!
